While we here at The Restoration Now!, a full service certified restoration team, recommend hiring us for a mold clean up, there are a few processes you can use to “do it yourself” in your home. As mold restoration experts we’d like to take a few minutes to share with you why mold is bad to have in your home and what you can do to mitigate some of the damage.
Typically mold will start to grow due to standing water and excessive moisture. In your home there will be areas that will always hold moisture; however, there should never be an excess amount of water. The longer water stays and manifests the more damage it does to your home and your health. Health hazards involved with mold include allergic reactions, such as sneezing, skin rashes, itchy eyes, and breathing difficulties.
I have Mold! What Do I do?
If you are experiencing mold problems we recommend contacting our mold removal specialists immediately. We know how to extract the mold with the least amount of hazard to your health. If you do experience growth with mold we recommend you to wear the following in moldy regions until we are able to arrive:
Goggles and Mask Are a Must
With mold spores being airborne it is extremely important that for you to protect your eyes. You can purchase swimming goggles or just regular goggles while you are moving about in the area that is contaminated.
Rubber Gloves & Boots
Our mold removal specialists suggest wearing rubber gloves and boots when entering a contaminated area. Gloves should be at elbow length so they will protect your hands and arms if you come into contact with mold. The rubber boots will ultimately protect your feet and legs from mold accidently touching your skin. Remember, mold is not your friend. Approach with caution!
How We Cleanup Mold
When we receive a service call for mold extraction our first goal is to help you stay calm. There is a stigma that mold can be represented by people that live in filth. This is not true by any means. Any home is sceptical to mold, especially if there is a high level of moisture or excessive water. Remember that mold is not alway noticeable above surface. In some cases homeowners or those renting a house will not realize mold is living in the bottom structure of their kitchen sink or bathtub.
When Should I Call a Mold Removal Specialist
If the mold infested area is a small patch of about 3ft by 3ft or an item our mold removal specialists can treat this with hot water. We never recommend you attempting to remove mold yourself as the spores will become airborne if this process is not completed correctly. At Restoration Now! we can help you with any mold removal situations, big or small. it is a good idea to give our mold restoration specialists a call if you have any questions versus attempting to remove the mold yourself.
Note: Restoration Now! Omaha recommends consulting with your doctor first before taking on mold cleaning for health and safety reasons.
